3 Staples for a Healthy Diet

Getting in shape is not just a matter of exercising. You won’t truly feel healthy and reap the benefits of strength training if you’re not eating the right way. Here are a few foods that every healthy diet needs.

Veggies and fruits

You’ve probably heard “eat your vegetables” a hundred times as a child, but your parents were right. Vegetables and fruits can improve your exercise performance and your metabolism. They can give you more energy, help regulate your blood pressure, and decrease your risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer. Veggies and fruits can also improve your mental performance and moods.

Eggs

Eggs are an often-overlooked source of protein and nutrients, especially for people looking to build muscle. Amino acids are essential for protein synthesis and post-exercise recovery. Many fitness enthusiasts’ resort to eating meat for amino acids, but there are other ways to get enough amino acids for a good muscle-building diet. If you’re a vegan, you may need to rely on sources other than eggs and meat, such as quinoa or tofu.

Tuna

Tuna’s advantages are its high vitamin content and its large number of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids can help keep your muscles in good health, so they are necessary for retaining the muscle mass you have gained. Tuna can be especially helpful if you’re trying to gain strength as an older person. Older people lose more strength and muscle mass, but studies have shown that tuna can help mitigate these conditions.
